Summer of Love Variety Show at the La Porte County Historical Society Museum
Since we are celebrating our “Summer of Love” here at the La Porte County Historical Society Museum, it’s just a natural thing that our 8th annual Variety Show would focus on music of the 1960’s. Rose Marie Dure will again be playing the keyboard for a group of local talented people. Some favorite songs included will be: “Moon River”, “California Dreamin’” as well as the Beatles, “Let It Be”. The Variety Show starts at 7 PM on Saturday June 23rd, on the lower level of the museum, located at 2405 Indiana Ave. in La Porte.
Also on the 23rd of June will be a grand re-opening of the W.A. Jones Collection of Ancient Weapons. The collection recently received a face-lift of the cabinetry. At 3 PM that day the public is invited to meet the cabinet makers and view the amazing transformation. The gun collection is owned by the City of La Porte and has been cared for by the Historical Society since 1921.
The “Summer of Love” display, which celebrates fashions and current events of the 1960’s, is up and running and will be on display for all of June, July, and August. Come view the exhibit and have some typical 1960’s fare, hot dogs and root beer, starting at 4 PM on that same day. The museum will not be closing at the usual time, so stay for a hot dog followed by the Variety Show.
The museum is accessible to those with disabilities. For more information, call 219-324-6767. Visit the website at www.laportecountyhistory.org, or email: info@laportecountyhistory.org.
