DESCRIPTION:Dispose of sharps\, chemicals and other hazardous materials in an environmentally safe manner by participating in the La Porte County Solid Waste District's Household Hazardous Waste collections. Our next collection will be held from 9 am to 2 pm June 23rd\, 2018 at the La Porte County Fairgrounds. The best part? Disposal is FREE for all La Porte County residents!\n\n\n\nHOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE: What should you bring to this collection?\n\n \n\n- Batteries\n\n- Fluorescent light bulbs\n\n- Mercury\n\n- Thermostats and thermometers\n\n- Sharps\n\n- Household cleaners\, disinfectants and polishes\n\n- ALL chemicals\n\n- Aerosol cans\n\n- Oil-based paint and paint products\n\n- Gasoline\n\n- Vehicle fluids (oil\, diesel\, brake etc.)\n\n- Moth balls\n\n- Pesticides\, insecticides\, fungicides and herbicides\n\n- Weed killer\n\n- Lighter fluid\n\n- Nail polish and remover\n\n- Ammunition\n\n- Hand held gas cylinders\n\n-Medications\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\nWhat NOT to bring:\n\n \n\n- Latex paint (Allow it to dry and dispose with your regular trash\, lid off)\n\n- Commercial hazardous waste\n\n- Explosives\n\n- Medical waste other than medicines and sharps\n\n- Radioactive material (Including smoke alarms)\n\n\n\nAll materials may be disposed of in their original packaging\, except for Sharps  And Medications.  Sharps must be contained in a sealed metal or hard plastic container\, such as a coffee can or a detergent bottle with a screw-on lid (no milk jugs).Medications need to be placed in a ziploc type bag.  For more information\, please call us at 326-0014. Our next HHW collection will be held July 14th\, 2018 in Michigan City in the West parking lot located behind Marquette Mall.
