Getting off to a Successful Start will be from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday Feb. 18 at the Purdue Technology Center of NWI\, 9800 Connecticut Drive.\n\nJim Jorgensen\, of Hoeppner\, Wagner & Evans\, Attorneys at Law\, and Sharon McGuire\, of the Society for Human Resource Management of Northwest Indiana\, will spotlight hiring and on-boarding processes.\n\nTopics include: when employers can and cannot use independent contractors\, how to conduct and use background checks\, use of social media to gather information on applicants\, questions that can and cannot be part of the interview process and practical tips to a successful on-boarding process after employees are hired.\n\nThere is no cost for the workshop\, but registration is required as there is limited seating. To register\, visit www.nwisbdc.org\, click on "Workshops and Events\," the workshop\, and follow instructions or call (219) 644-3513. Snacks will be provided.\n\nServing seven counties in the region\, the Northwest ISBDC offers no-cost assistance for entrepreneurs starting or expanding their businesses. Through one-on-one consulting\, the NWI SBDC helps guide small businesses toward their goals by offering referrals\, workshops\, training opportunities and other essential business tools.
