SUMMARY:Safe Sitter Course from IU Health
DESCRIPTION:Teens aged 11 and older can learn expert babysitting skills and gain knowledge and confidence in their ability to care for younger children by attending the Safe Sitter course provided by Indiana University Health La Porte Hospital. The program may even help them feel more comfortable with staying home alone. The next class is from 8 a.m. 3:30 p.m.\, Dec. 23 in La Porte. The cost is $40. Safe Sitter courses have helped more than 650\,000 adolescent babysitters across the country learn basic live saving and safety techniques. This medically-accurate program instills students with confidence as they learn how\, why and where injuries can happen so they can be prevented.\n\nThe up-to-date curriculum provides hands-on practice in lifesaving techniques designed to prepare babysitters to act in an emergency. Babysitters also receive instruction on how a child's age affects how to care for them\, how to prevent problem behavior and how to run their own babysitting business. They also learn basic CPR and first aid\, as well as how to perform infant and child choking rescue. (Basic life-saving skills taught at Safe Sitter do not result in a certification).\n\nFor more information or to register your son or daughter\, call 219-326-2322. For more information about the Safe Sitter organization\, contact National Headquarters at 800-255-4089 or visit www.safesitter.org.
