SUMMARY:StoryWalk at Kesling Park Ribbon Cutting
DESCRIPTION:The La Porte County Public Library\, in collaboration with the City of La Porte Park and Recreation Department\, are unveiling a StoryWalk at Kesling Park at 11 a.m. on Friday\, May 1. To celebrate this new community feature\, the Greater La Porte Chamber of Commerce will be administering a Ribbon Cutting at the event. The location will be near beginning of the walking path off of 18th Street.\n\nCome and celebrate! There is no cost to attend.\n\nA StoryWalk combines a children's book with a walking path. The concept was created by Anne Ferguson of the Vermont Bicycle and Pedestrian Coalition. A picture book is taken apart\, laminated\, and mounted on posts along a walkway. StoryWalks now exist in at least 38 states. It is a great way to combine literacy with physical activity. It is a way to reach non-library users by creating a positive library related experience in an unexpected environment. It is also their hope that the StoryWalk will bring regular Library users to parks for fresh air and exercise.
