Grand Heritage Federal Credit Union New Location Opens to Serve Growing La Porte Community
LA PORTE, Indiana — Tonn and Blank Construction has completed construction of the new Grand Heritage Federal Credit Union facility at Newport Landing, marking a significant investment in continued growth and accessibility for members in the La Porte community.
Located at 191 N. Madison Street, the new 3,170-square-foot credit union includes a 990-square-foot drive-thru canopy designed to improve convenience, traffic flow, and day-to-day banking operations. The project officially opened with a ribbon cutting on June 3, 2026.
Delivered through a design-build approach, the project allowed Tonn and Blank to manage both design coordination and construction under one team. That streamlined communication, reduced delays during decision-making, and gave the owner clearer budget and schedule control throughout the project.
The facility includes five private offices, a member-focused lobby and teller area, an executive boardroom, a larger breakroom, and support spaces designed to improve both staff workflow and member experience. The exterior combines a Stone veneer with Nichiha wall panels for long-term durability and low maintenance. The drive-thru lanes have video teller technology, and the site includes a designated drive-thru lane for larger vehicles. Another lane is designed for the ATM withdrawals and deposits, and Night drop deposit services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Construction began in July 2025 and reached completion May 2026.
Throughout construction, the project team coordinated extensive site work and utility infrastructure improvements while maintaining schedule momentum through changing field conditions and utility coordination challenges. The project experienced delays tied primarily to permanent utility installation outside of the construction team’s control. Even with those challenges, the team maintained progress on interiors, exterior finishes, and site development to keep the project moving efficiently toward completion.
“We’re thrilled to officially celebrate our new location with the LaPorte community,” said Jeri Hesters, CEO of Grand Heritage Federal Credit Union. “Our high-end custom building was designed to be welcoming and convenient, and our team is excited to serve members with comfortable one-on-one areas delivering personalized financial assistance they deserve.” The new location supports the credit Union’s larger economic and geographic expansion initiatives, positioning the institution for long-term continued growth. Grand Heritage established locally in 1956 has convenient hours, Monday – Friday the lobby is open from 9 am to 5 pm, drive-thru opens at 8 am and on Saturdays the drive-thru only is open 8 am to noon.
For Tonn and Blank Construction, the project also carried personal significance.
“We’ve been building in this community for more than 100 years, and projects like this matter because they directly serve the people who live and work here,” said Jon Gilmore, CEO of Tonn and Blank Construction. “Many of our employees are members of Grand Heritage Federal Credit Union themselves. Being trusted to help deliver this facility means a great deal to our team. We approached this project with the same level of care and accountability we bring to every job, regardless of size.”
The completed facility now serves as a visible addition to Newport Landing and provides Grand Heritage Federal Credit Union with a modern space designed to support members and staff for years to come.
