Reins of Life, Inc. is offering new volunteer training on Monday, October 5, from 2-4:30 p.m. and Tuesday, October 13, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. CT. After attending one training, volunteers will be qualified to help in therapeutic riding lessons and the school program. Reins is located at 9375 W. 300 N, Michigan City, and provides therapeutic riding, therapeutic carriage driving, interactive vaulting, K12 school program, veterans program, and other equine-assisted services.

Reins is recruiting volunteers aged 13 and older to assist with therapeutic riding lessons. Volunteers are responsible for walking alongside participants who require extra support during their lesson. Horse experience is not necessary. There is a special need for volunteers to help in the mornings with the special education school program.

An additional training for those interested in interactive vaulting will be offered Wednesday, October 14 from 5:30-7:30. This is a program described as gymnastics on a horse. Volunteers have an active role and help boost participants as they mount a moving horse, among other things!

Volunteers are also needed to feed their herd. Feeders must be 16+ years old. No horse experience is required—just a willing attitude and ability to follow directions. Feeders are asked to commit to one shift a week, and one-on-one training is provided.
