City, Center Township to partner with Nest Community Shelter on warming center this winter
La PORTE, IN (Jan. 15, 2025) – Residents in need will soon have access to an emergency warming shelter right here in La Porte, according to Mayor Tom Dermody. Joining forces with Center Township Trustee Lisa Pierzakowski, the City has today announced a partnership with Nest Community Shelter to bring a temporary emergency shelter – dubbed Nest La Porte – to the former train depot on Washington Street. Set to open this Sunday, Jan. 19, the shelter will be open nightly from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. through March 31.

New York Blower Announces Investment in New Office Building and Greenspace
La Porte, IN – New York Blower today announced plans for a $5,000,000 capital investment in a new office building and greenspace at their current location at 171 Factory Street. Dermody Announces Agreement with Rural King to Open in La Porte
May 11th, 2020—Rural King, America’s Farm and Home Store, has announced plans to open in La Porte, Indiana by March 2021. The new store will open in Maple Lane Mall, 1340 West State Road 2. Significant renovations to the 221,000 sq. ft. structure are scheduled to begin in early spring.
