Lubeznik Center for the Arts Welcomes New Public Art Liaison Corey Hagelberg

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. - Lubeznik Center for the Arts (LCA) is thrilled to welcome Corey Hagelberg as its new Public Art Liaison.

An interdisciplinary artist and educator based in Gary, Hagelberg has spent the past 15 years creating work that brings attention to environmental and social justice issues in the Calumet Region along the south shore of Lake Michigan. Working across printmaking, sculpture and socially engaged art, his practice centers on restorative ecology and reimagining cities as regenerative, connected communities.

Hagelberg is also the co-founder and director of the Calumet Artist Residency, which explores the intersection of regenerative thinking and the arts. He is currently pursuing an MFA in sculpture at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

"I am thrilled that Corey has joined our team," said Janet Bloch, Executive Director of LCA. "His experience as an artist, educator and community advocate will help us think bigger about how public art can truly engage and inspire our entire region."

The first year of the part-time position is funded by the Health Foundation of La Porte, a valued partner in advancing the role of the arts in building connected, healthy communities. "We are so grateful to have their support," Bloch added.
